DEVISING TRANSFORMATIONAL STRATEGIES FOR THE NEW NORMAL
East Africa currently is home to some of the quickest growing economies in the world and the entire continent is set for a vast economic transformation. Moreover, the pandemic crisis has brought to the fore the possibilities of the digital economy. Africa already leads the world on telecom infrastructure and uptake and innovation in the digital economy. This offers efficiency and productivity gains for African economies. Today it presents a chance to continue to build the economy in the post Covid-19 environment and even for Africa to aspire to become a global hub for innovation.
The ‘new normal’ is already here. As countries ease off restrictions and markets resume economic activity, we are all witnessing the impact of the pandemic on consumer behaviour, spending and consumption patterns, as well as societal norms. The undisputed fact is that economically we are falling short of where we expected to be in 2021 While the government response has varied globally, within the region we have seen a broad range of fiscal policies that have been rolled out rapidly and are now being scrutinized, evaluated and fine-tuned to achieve the desired results.
